Some Security Measures You Cannot Forget

Using these simple methods can protect your business and your
peace of mind.
Data security should be an important area of concern for every small-business
owner. When you consider all the important data you store virtually -- from financial records, to customers' private information -- it's not hard to see why one breach could seriously damage your business. According to the most recent Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report [PDF], an estimated "285 million records were compromised in 2008." And 74 percent of those incidents were from outside sources.

1 Establish strong passwords

If you are in 21 century sure you will be using internet and using internet to secure of your social account using strong password is important and today i will tell who to create a strong password use a different password for each of your account like your email and online banking accounts re use of password is risky this will help is a condition in which someone figures out your password  for one account that person could not potentially gain access to your email, address, and your money.  Using numbers, symbols and mix lower and upper case letters in your password makes it harder for someone to guess your password and use more the 8 character password. Create a unique password that's unrelated to your personal information and uses a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols(such as "sP0okyh@||0w3En") and don't use any password software because a lot of software are there in market full of vulnerabilities if you save password in them someone will hack them and will ...

2 Put up A Strong Firewall

Having a personal firewall can quell the jitters you might have about your computer getting attacked. An Internet connection, especially an always-on type like broadband, is the entry point for hackers who want to get to your computer. A firewall polices your connection and is an essential tool in a basic computer security arsenal, along with an anti-virus tool. The book “Network Security First-Step” likens a firewall to an Internet border security officer because of its role in disallowing the wrong things from entering your computer from a network or the Internet. Windows Firewall (or any other firewall) can help alert you to suspicious activity if a virus or worm attempts to connect to your computer. It can also block viruses, worms, and hackers from attempting to download potentially harmful programs to your computer.

Install an antivirus program

Installing an antivirus program and keeping it up to date can help defend your computer against viruses. Antivirus programs scan for viruses trying to get into your email, operating system, or files. New viruses appear daily, so set your antivirus software to install updates automatically.

Don't open email attachments unless you're expecting them

Many viruses are attached to email messages and will spread as soon as you open the email attachment. It's best not to open any attachment unless it's something you're expecting.

Use a pop-up blocker with your browser

Pop-up windows are small browser windows that appear on top of the website you're viewing. Although most are created by advertisers, they can also contain malicious or unsafe code. A pop-up blocker can prevent some or all of these windows from appearing. The Pop-up Blocker feature in Internet Explorer is turned on by default. To learn more about  changing its settings or turning it on and off.

6 Regularly Backup data

data backup is the result of copying or archiving files and folders for the purpose of being able to restore them in case of data loss. Data loss can be caused by many things ranging from computer viruses to hardware failures to file corruption to fire, flood, or theft (etc).
Computer hard disk drives have a hard time of it, spinning round for eight hours or more a day, heating up and cooling down, experiencing the odd physical knock, constantly having data written or erased ... and all of this happening inside a hot metal case with electricity coursing in all directions. It goes without saying that sometimes your drive is not going to survive this hostile environment. Recovering data from a hard disk which has failed is an expensive process and it is unlikely your School or Unit would sanction the thousands of pounds it could cost.
